Dear friends and colleagues of DYH,
With great pleasure I want to update our friends and partners of Develop The Youth Heritage (Gambia) about our recent health program (DYH) held at Pirang and it’s surrounding villages at Kombo East, west Coast region, The Gambia It was held on Saturday the 7th of May 2022. It was very successful and was witnessed by the cuban ambassador to the Gambia Mr Ruben, a spanish donor Mr Jose, head of the medical team Dr Anaris and members of the ministry of health of the Gambia. The doctors were able to attend over 600 patients, 24 patients were referred with appointments to hospitals with serious illness and needed immediate attention. I want to thank the Gambia group and all those who have helped us to make this day successful. On behalf of the youth group DYH, our communities, children and elders we thank you all very much for the wonderful support. God bless us all. We still needed support for health equipments such like ( BP machines) BP means blood pressure machines and medical equipments which are highly needed to enable the doctors carry out their work easy and efficiently.

Purchase of the land for DYH
In September 2019 the land was purchased by DYH (through a single donation from Germany).
getting started
Our first step was to build a wall, for which we produced stones ourselves.
We were allowed to draw the water needed for the cement from the deep neighbouring well, as we ourselves did not have our own water at that time.
2 gates were needed to allow access with a car, as well as the entrance.
Since the property must be guarded, a security house could not be missing.
Project Container
Dorothee and Anneliese visited Ebrima in Gambia in 2019. There he presented his project DYH.
They were so enthusiastic and wanted to help.
The only question was how?
Dorothee thought to herself, we have so many things lying around in the cellar, which are well preserved but unused. In Gambia these things could be used very well.
So she started an appeal for donations, organized a container and the project was born.
October 2019 - May 2020
October 2019 to March 2020:
- clearing of the land
- Trench for the walling
- Manual production of innumerable wall stones for the walling of the area
January 2020
- Ebrima comes to Winnenden to help with container loading before returning to Gambia at the end of the month to devote himself fully to his vision and his country.
February 2020
- Anneliese,Nici and Pia and travel to Gambia. With their own eyes they experience the commitment of the young people, which they show in the construction of the centre. With a lot of manual work and physical strength they bring a high level of commitment free of charge.
April 2020
- Drilling for the water in the DYH Center (sponsored by Joachim B., Winnenden)
A milestone for the further construction of the center.
May 2020
- Safety precautions at the DYH Center are completed:
Barbed wire, gates, security cottages, lights at the water tower, concreting the borehole area.
- Power supply by solar modules and battery will be secured.
- Digging a trench for the water pipe to the neighbour. He had provided water from his well during the construction, but it dried up during the construction (does not have the appropriate depth to the ground water).
Container reached Gambia
Great joy, the container has reached its destination.
The call to collect machines, tools, school equipment and much more was answered by many people around Winnenden. The 12 meter long container was filled up to the roof after 4 months and could start its journey to Gambia in mid-March 2020.
After some delays the ship finally reached the port of Banjul on 08.05.
The car that was sent along is already driving on Gambia's roads and the container has found its place on the DYH premises.
June 20 – workshop how to make soaps and batik

a great man has left us
Mr Ebrima Sawaneh haas been working with Raid-The Gambia for over 10 years as M&E Officer responsble for monitoring and evaluation Rais project activities and programs, Sawaneh has served as the adviser to (DYH) organization with great commitment and determination towords achieving our project goals.
Pleas join us to pray for Sawaneh and his family and friends.
He`s gone but forever be remembered in our prayers and hearts.
Shelter
the construction of the shelter is progressing.
The foundation and the roof are finish.
Now its turn of the inferior construction.
NEW PROJECT: TOILETTS
„An update from DYH Pirang. As we all can see from the pictures of the hard working boys and girls, currently DYH is digging toilets at ist center.
These boys have no machines but everything is done manually by hand.
We are asking for help buying cements, ironrods, grave lands and to concrete the toilets. The center has no toilets at moment and this is not convenient for our youthgroup especially the girls and the children. I thank you all for your wonderful support of our center. God bless us all.“

i want to tell you the News from the center.
At the end of november 2020 the Cuban doctors was once again in Pirang, they checked the people for free. It was organized from Ebrima Jaiteh (DYH) in cooperation with Marubia (cuban doctor), her boss and the ambassador from Cuba. DYH organized the service (transport, meals) for the doctors.
The youth group work a lot for a paradise garden in the center. They plant, water and weed. The harvest will be offered for a small price so they have a little profit.
The boys work hard for some toiletts. They made a big pit without any machines. They have bricked and concreted a lot. They made all bricks by her own. They finished the first toilet in a night shift as a welcome for Dorothee ;-)
It is time to open the container from germany, which one arrived in may 2020.
They only used a little things from it, at first the shelter was necessary to put things there. And Ebrima was still waiting fort he organisator from germany.
Dorothee take the risk of corona and traveld. There was a nice meeting at the center. Members of the comunity and from DYH thanked the Cuban doctors and the partner from germany warmly.
The next day, the container was opened. They sorted and looked what they can use in time.
The chairs and tables found their place in the shelter. It can be used now as an classroom. They want to help the children from the comunity to learn english.
The girls are happy about the sewing machines. They are looking for a workshop with a tailor for free to learn sewing

At the 13.03.21 they had a sewing training session with tailor Alieu. The boys and girls did absolutely wonderful.
The next big step is the electricity in the center. It will be used for the machines from the container. But this is very expensive and it is only possible with your help.
My visit showed me how determined and with how much commitment Ebrima and the youth from DYH are pursuing their plan.
The center is a peaceful enchanting place where not only young adults and children feel comfortable.
It is and was wonderful to see what happened, and how every support is implemented in the center..
