Background on Develop The Youth Heritage

The idea “Develop The Youth Heritage” came from Mr. Ebrima Jaiteh, the Founder/ CEO. The Heritage was established years ago during regular meetings with the community members; and got formally registered as a CBO by the Government of The Gambia on 19/04/2016. The charity has a unique role to play in furthering the course of community and rural development in The Gambia. Despite the existence of other organizations, Develop The Youth Heritage continues to position itself as the central facilitator in the national quest to improve the conditions of rural people by,

1. Ensuring that development are people focused with the maximum use of the limited available human resources through self-help initiatives

2. Building human and institutional capacity at local and community level

3. Fostering and creating participation of communities and groups in their own development; from identification of their needs to the implementation and maintenance of projects

4. Enhancing the productive capacity of the rural people by promoting income generating activities, self help works, communal activities and support the needy people

5. Improving access to social services and encourage participatory community driven development actions and approaches.

As a small organisation, we are looking for volunteers, advocates, fundraisers, donors, friends and families in any way thereby contributing to building the Youth centre to work with the next generation of young people in The Gambia.

We provide the following programs for young people in the communities

Social Inclusion

We aim to recruit young people with limited opportunities.

Community Cohesion

We support projects, which link culturally diverse communities in the Gambia.

Youth Participation

We empower young people to design and develop their own projects.

Skills for life

Volunteers leave more confident in leadership, teamwork and meeting new people. This helps them go onto future work, study or enterprise.

Global Citizenship

We help young people to be confident, connected and compassionate global citizens who feel more to make a positive impact on the world around them.

We provide young people with opportunities to volunteer in the Gambia, and help them to set up community links between The Gambia and the world.

Our Vision is that these experiences will empower young people to combat prejudice, barriers and injustice that they encounter in the future life.

Develop The Youth Heritage is unique in its mission to actively seek out to young people who may have social, economic or cultural barriers to volunteering.
